Tommy Thompson Park
Tommy Thompson has one of the highest bird species counts in Toronto, and is a haven for nature-lovers (like me!) During the spring, summer, and fall, a great variety of songbirds can be found in the park’s forests and shrubs. One of my personal favourites is the indigo bunting, with males being a beautiful blue and cyan colour, while females sport a pretty all-brown plumage.
Waterfowl, such as swans, geese, and ducks are common sights in Tommy Thompson year-round, though some species only appear during the migration season.
The park is also home to a variety of mammals, such as the adorable American mink. I was lucky enough to encounter a group of 4 minks during one of my visits, and it was a joy to watch them run around the shore.
